10th Assembly: I’ve no preferred candidate for Lagos Assembly Speakership post – Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu of Lagos State, on Tuesday, assured the lawmakers that as they conduct elections into principal offices, he had no preferred candidate for the position of speaker of the assembly.

The governor spoke while proclaiming the opening of the 10th Lagos State House of Assembly.

“I stand neutral in the selection process. My interest lies in how we can work together, irrespective of who assumes what role, to fulfill our shared responsibilities to the people of Lagos State. Each one of you, regardless of position, brings unique value and perspective to this assembly, and it is through our collective efforts that we will achieve the extraordinary, ” the governor said.

He added: ” The emergence of the Speaker and other principal officers is a decision entrusted to you by the constitution. I trust that you will carry out this duty with the highest level of integrity and respect for democratic principles

Governor Sanwo-Olu also promised to cooperate with the legislature to drive the greater Lagos agenda.

According to him, the proclamation was a testimony to the vital role of legislative power in a a democratic governance.

He described the legislature as ‘an indispensable pillar of our democracy’ which plays an essential role in the hopes and aspirations of the people for good governance.

He said the executive and the legislature are ‘partners in this democratic journey’ and promised ‘to work with the 10th Assembly, collaborating to drive impactful policies, and fostering an environment where the hopes and dreams of every Lagosian can be realized.’
