Bwari council needs more health workers -Official

The Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory has called for the engagement of more health workers in its Primary Health Centers.

The Head of the Department of Health in the council, Dr Sunday Goji made the call in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said that the council for now needed more workers to cater for the basic health of the populace rather than more facilities.

He said: “We do not need to create more or expand these facilities for now, what we need are more volunteers at the health centers, we are really short-staffed.

“We have taken the advocacy to the FCT minister through the Health and Human Services Secretariat on engaging more staff for these facilities because that is what we need most now.”

Goji said that the council was also working towards meeting the infrastructure and environmental challenges of the centres.

“We know how this affects the people and are really working to address these issues especially that of the cleanliness of the environment.

“We have engaged facility service providers in the past who abandoned their duties after being owed their salaries, But I assure you, we will collaborate with the Department of Environment to address the issue.

“We have written several memos but we will take it up with the incoming Chairman of the council to address it speedily.”

Speaking on provision of surgical equipment at the centres, Goji said that it was not necessary as the centers only have doctors serving under the National Youth Service Corp.

He said these doctors were not trained enough to handle any surgeries, adding that they refer patients with emergency cases to other hospitals. (NAN)
