Mrs. Lantana Ahmed, the matron of NIFEST, stressed the need to explore the rich cultural heritage of the state for the people to appreciate what they have and use it for the development of the state.

Ahmed said that the group had embarked on vigorous campaigns including road shows to create  awareness on the eroding indigenous cultures and the need to revive them.

She pointed out that citizens needed to showcase their cultural practices through dressing, dance and even food for the benefit of the future generation.

Ahmed called on the government to support the development of culture and tourism as it would help to boost the revenue of the state.

Earlier, Mr. Abubakar Umar, the Chairman, Organising Committee of the road show and cultural festival, said the event would feature diverse cultural displays such as cuisines, dance, attires and artifacts.

He further said that the event would promote peaceful co-existence among the diverse groups in the state, using culture as a unifying factor.

Umar called on the people of the state to support the state government in ensuring the sustenance of peace and unity in the state through culture. (NAN)
