Ekiti begins free school feeding programme

...As Gov. Fayemi approves 3000 free JAMB forms for youths

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has said that a home grown school feeding programme, tagged ‘Ekiti Kete Meals’ would commence in the state this month.

The governor has also approved a sum of N21.8 million for 3000 free forms for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Governor Fayemi gave this promise at a training workshop for food vendors that would be used for the feeding programme added that the programme, which is purposely designed to improve pupils’ dietary status, increase school enrolment and provide employment opportunities for youths and farmers in the state would be well planned and carried out.

Represented at the occasion by his Chief of Staff, Biodun Omoleye, the governor reiterated his commitment to improve the living standard of the people of the State.

He advised the food vendors to do the job assigned to them diligently with outright dedication and absolute commitment.

“It is hoped that our esteemed food vendors would do their works with integrity that would not betray the confidence reposed in them by the government that appointed you to serve in this capacity.

“Be assured that your positive contributions towards the programme will go a long way in rebranding and bringing more benefits to our loving state and our children who are leaders of tomorrow.”

The governor revealed that the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, will be visiting the State before the end of the week to launch ‘TradersMoni’ scheme.

He solicited the support and cooperation of all media practitioners to give adequate publicity to the home grown school feeding programme before, during, and after the programme.

The acting Executive Secretary, Agency for Adult and Non- Formal Education, Mrs. Biola Akilo, who gave this information in her office, in Ado-Ekiti, said the forms would be given free-of-charge.

Mrs. Akilo, who urged qualified youth to visit the headquarters of the Agency for Adult and Non- Formal Education at the State Secretariat, Ado Ekiti urged that interested candidates could visit  Mass Literacy offices in the Sixteen Local Government areas of the State to register for the collection of forms.

Eligible candidates, according to the Ag. Executive Secretary must possess at least six Credits at one sitting in WAEC and NECO examinations including Mathematics and English Language and with not less than 34 points aggregate.

Part of the requirements for obtaining the forms include the provision of a valid working and reachable phone number by the candidates.
