Ignore PDP’s call for resignation, group tells Sanwo-Olu

A pro-democracy group, the Youth Advocacy Initiative (YAI), has urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State to ignore the call from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to resign from office over the #EndSARS protest, saying the call was callous and frivolous.

A release signed by the group’s convener, Comrade Adekunle Akinde, described the call as detraction that should be ignored by the governor and all other well-meaning members of the society, saying, “as much as we know, Governor Sanwo-Olu is doing well just as he has been doing since his assumption of office.

On the issues of the #EndSARS protest, the group scored Sanwo-Olu high, saying, he has repeated his superlative performance that earned him international commendations from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations (UN), during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement reminded that, Sanwo-Olu identified with the youth protesters by listening to them, walking with them and by squeezing out time from his tight schedule to deliver the protesters’ letter of complaints to the seat of power in Abuja, stressing the need to commend and not condemn the governor for a job well done.

The group was of the view that, “for now, there is no alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC) government in Lagos because the party is doing well in the art of good governance”, asserting that, “PDP is even far away from being a replacement for the progressive elements that have been performing wonders since 1999.”

Besides, the group frowned at the PDP’s call and described it as, “insensitive, ill-time and irresponsible at a time all the good people of Nigeria are expected to be thinking of how the state should be rebuilt after the huge destruction visited on it by hoodlums that infiltrated the genuine youth protesters.”

Calling for the governor’s resignation, the group said, was an art of playing needless petty politics in the face of serious national disaster that calls for all hands to be on deck for nation building, wondering how any individual or group of individuals should choose such period for sober reflections to play petty politics!

According to the statement, it is only the PDP and its co-travellers in the art of misrule that would listen to such a funny call expected from stage comedians and court jesters, urging the people to remain committed to the governor and his team who are doing their best to give the people the best.

“We are sure no reasonable person would listen to such a call at a time victims of the protest are lamenting their losses, mourning their dead and treating the injured,” praying the good Lord to give the bereaved fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, quickest recovery to the injured and replenishment of wealth for those whose properties were damaged and destroyed.
