VON, Tanzanian High Commission train staff o Kiswahili

As the broadcasting house, the Voice of Nigeria (VON), intensifies efforts at strengthening broadcasting, in Kiswahili, an East African major Language, the country’s external service broadcaster has launched its training partnership with the Tanzanian Government.

The training was inaugurated in the Corporate Headquarters of VON in Wuse, Abuja Tuesday where the High Commissioner of United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Alfred Bana led a strong delegation to VON.

Kiswahili is one of VONs eight languages of broadcast, the others being Arabic, English, French, Fulfude, Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba.

The broadcasting house is also making efforts to introduce Mandarin, the Chinese major Language as it already has a staff training arrangement with the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.

The Director-General of VON, Mr. Osita Okechukwu said, “the inauguration of Kiswahili language training for VON staff is in line with the Mission and Vision of the Organization to use Kiswahili language to reach out to our global audience who are Kiswahili speakers. Mr. Okechukwu says Kiswahili will be used as broadcast  in VON. The Director General of VON and The Management Team received Dr Alfred Benson Bama  High Commissioner United Republic of Tanzania to Nigeria and his entourage to grace the occasion where the inauguration took place in Abuja.

The Tanzania High Commissioner promised to give VON Staff the best in the training which will be on going for a period of three months and further training for staff that performs well. He therefore urged the staff to put in their best.

Mr.  Bana also spoke about the Nigerian hospitality to him and sent the Presidential greetings to the Corporation. Some of the spokespersons on the occasion were the  VON DG, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, the  High Commissioner United Republic of Tanzania Dr Alfred Bana, and  EDN, Mr Ahaziah Suleiman among other dignitaries.
