Sterling Law Centre has called for the immediate prosecution of some officers of Department of State Services (DSS) who allegedly tortured one Patrick Okachi, a staff of Statement Hotel, Abuja, accused of theft by the management of the hotel.

In a statement by the group signed by it’s Executive Director, Deji Ajare, on the 3rd of November 2022, Patrick Okachi who works as a cleaner in Statement Hotel in Abuja was at work carrying out his normal duties when he was summoned by Celina Okafor, the Secretary of the hotel who accused him of stealing an undisclosed amount of money from the office of the Chairman the previous day and claimed that he was caught on CCTV camera.

The victim reportedly  demanded to see the CCTV footage, which was not shown to him.

The secretary allegedly contacted one Festus who allegedly brought two officials of the  DSS to the office and  pick Patrick up and allegedly torture him by beating him severely with all kinds of weapons.

They also allegedly inserted sharp objects in the penis, and later dumped him on the streets of Abuja after the victim insisted he never committed the offence.

The incident was  reported to the Central Police Station at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja and an investigation launched into the matter.

However,  the group stated that the  FCT Police has delayed in prosecuting  those behind the torture of Patrick and therefore calls on  the Commissioner of Police, FCT to direct immediate prosecution of the suspects in the appropriate court.

The group however warned that it will not hesitate to  file legal suits against all concerned parties to ensure the enforcement of Patrick Okachi’s fundamental human rights.
