Rope Jump scribe craves govt support

Secretary-General of Rope Jump Federation of Nigeria, Susan Olukoya said there is a need for government at all levels and corporate Nigeria to give financial backing to the sports as a way of keeping youths busy and out of crime and other social vices ravaging the country presently.
He told The Nigerian XpressSports yesterday that the country boasts of talented athletes in the sports who cannot only rule the game in the continent but be a force to be reckoned with globally but lamented that lack of adequate support is discouraging many of them from concentrating on their training.
“I’m happy that the game of rope jump which is new in the country has received acceptability in almost all the states of the Federation. Presently, we have a lot of potential athletes involved in the sports but lack of encouragement is hindering their progress.
“There is a need for government at all levels and corporate organizations to take interest in what we’re doing because we have a lot of talented athletes who can win laurels for the country at both continental and global level if given adequate financial support.
Olukoya explained that the Federation will soon come out with their programme for the remaining part of the year which he said will involve aggressive grassroots development of the sports as is done in South Africa, Egypt and Morocco.
“The COVID- 19 Pandemic really affected our plans last year but we’re re-strategizing and very soon we’ll come out with our programme for the remaining part of the year which will include introducing the game in all the 36 states as well as taking it to tertiary institutions, secondary and primary schools as part of our grassroots development of the sports,” he concluded.
