#NIGERIA DECIDES2023: Sanwo-Olu must restrategise to avert Tinubu’s fate in Lagos – Jimi Disu

Veteran journalist and political analyst, Jimi Disu, has advised Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to change strategy if he wants to avert losing in the March 11 gubernatorial election in Lagos like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,  the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, who lost to  the Labour Party, LP, flag bearer, Peter Obi, in Lagos on Saturday.
Obi had beaten Tinubu by a slim margin, having polled a total of 575,735 votes while the former Lagos governor scored 573,001 votes.
Disu, who spoke in an interview on Nigeria Info FM’s ‘Dailies Today’,  opined that Tinubu’s camp in Lagos made the fatal mistake of assuming that Obi’s supporters were all Igbo.
Therefore,  he advised Sanwo-olu not to make the same mistake but to steer clear of the APC strategy in the state ahead of the gubernatorial election or risk suffering the same fate.
“I think it’s results like this that give us a feel of what is truly happening in Lagos. If I was Sanwo-Olu, I would step back and study the voting pattern of the just-concluded presidential election in the state. The APC made the mistake to think that all Obidients are Igbos. They completely missed it with that thought.
“One question the APC needs to ask is this; if it’s the same APC people and others who voted for Femi Gbajabiamila at his polling unit, why did Obi defeat Tinubu at that same polling unit?
“What that should tell you is that you can’t take the average Nigerian for granted because they are very discerning. And don’t take your praise singers as your best advisers. Your best advisers are your critics,” Disu said.
