Man, 25, arrested for raping 70-yr-old woman

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, identified as Wasiu Bankole, for the alleged rape of a 70-year-old woman (name withheld). 
The incident reportedly happened at Abule lemode area of Ijoko, in Ogun Stste, on June 2, 202. 
It was gathered that the suspect, broke into the room of the septuagenarian around 8p.m., forcing his way into her, against her will.
It was learnt that while the woman shouted for help, a neighbour, who heard her cry for help, rushed to her room, where he caught Bankole in the act. 
Angry at the cruel act, the rescuer had hit the suspect with a stick, but he fled immediately, leaving behind his cloths, shoes and torchlight. 
According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),  Abimbola Oyeyemi, the matter was reported at the Agbado Police Division, which led to the arrest of the suspect 24 hours later. 
Oyeyemi said: “ The suspect was arrested following a report by the victim at Agbado Police Division, that while she was sleeping in her house, the suspect suddenly broke into her room, held her down and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her against her consent. 
“ The victim stated further that it was one of her neighbor who heard her screaming that came to rescue her by using a stick to hit the suspect at his back consequence upon which he jumped off her and ran away leaving his clothes, shoe and torchlight  inside her room.

“ Upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO),  Kuranga Yero, a Superintendent of Police (SP), dispatched his detectives to look for the suspect and bring him to justice. The detectives succeeded in getting him arrested. 
“ On interrogation, he confessed committing the crime but claimed to have acted under the influence of alcohol. The victim has been taken to the hospital for medical attention. ”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
