Edo community threatens continuous protest against Shaibu’s impeachment until peace is embraced

 

The people of Edo state has warned legislators against the move to impeach the deputy governor, Philip Shaibu.

 

The community who were seen protesting in the early hours of Thursday on the street with inscriptions such as “No to impeachment”, “We want peace in Edo State”, “Return the N500 million bribe to Obaseki”, “Shaibu is our Next Governor, no going back”, among other appealed to the lawmakers to stay clear of any move to impeach the deputy governor to give the state its desired peace.

 

According to them, the protest will continue until Governor Obaseki and the lawmakers embrace peace.

The protesters which was led under the aegis of Peace Movement and PDP Faithful, and converged on Auchi, Etsako West local government area in Edo North Senatorial District decried the impeachment proceedings of the Assembly.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Mr Aminu Umosor, Gafata Emmanuel and Hajia Anetu Momodu, said they would mobilise the people of the state and the PDP to work against the party if they continue with the planned impeachment of Philip Shaibu as the deputy governor of Edo State.

They said this was to show to all Edo people that they stand by Philip Shaibu and the mandate they gave to him, noting that, if Governor Obaseki and the House of Assembly are ready for dialogue and true reconciliation, they should come with clean hands and not impeachment notice.

 

Leadership reported that the press secretary to the deputy governor, Musa Ebomhiana, said that efforts were on to resolve the matter.

 

He said PDP as a party has stepped in as a family to resolve the matter, saying that the umbrella is big enough to accommodate everyone.
