Police raid blackspots in Lagos, arrest 27 suspects

At least, 27 suspects have been arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos State Police Command, during a 24hours raid of black spots in the state.
The Command disclosed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, stating that the Commissioner of Police (CP), Hakeem Odumosu had ordered the police unit to embark on the raid.
The statement signed by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed that the suspects were alleged to be responsible for traffic robberies, cultism and other vices.
Adejobi said: “ Sequel to the commitment of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, to continually take Anti-Crime fight to the dens of criminals and miscreants in the state, the Police Command has arrested 27 suspects in a planned raid of different blackspots in Lagos metropolis between the late hours of Thursday, February 4, and early hours of Friday February 5.
“ The arrest was carried out by the operatives of the RRS being a follow up to the directive of the Commissioner of Police to the Commander,  Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), to place certain spots under surveillance and dislodge the criminals hibernating in the spots especially at Ikeja, Agege and Alimosho areas of Lagos State.
“ The raid was also extended to Ile Zik, Dopemu Under Bridge, Shasha, Orisumbare, Iyana – Ipaja Underbridge, Ile – Epo, Abule Egba, Isokoko, Alfa Nla, Capitol Road, Akilo, Marketing, Alausa Central Business District among others.”
He gave some of the identities of the arrested persons as; Olajide Kolawole, 26, Kehinde Ayoola, 25, Dola Abdullahi, 20, Michael Ogungbade,19,  and others.
While stating that the CP has assured that the command will continue to intensify efforts to reduce incidences of traffic robbery, cultism and other social vices to their barest minimum, the PPRO warned that such vices are not pardonable.
“The CP has commended operatives for the successful operation, and has also advised parents and guardians to monitor their children and wards on the company they keep, as cultism and traffic robbery remain unpardonable crimes which will not be overlooked or spared, but attract stringent punishments in accordance with the law, ” he emphasised.
