Algeria moves to supply free electricity to Niger Republic

Algeria may have decided to supply free electricity to the Niger Republic, so says a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Adamu Garba.
Recall that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had cut off the power supply to the embattled country.
TUC Kano State sub-region Public Relations Officer, Adam Umar El-yandiski, confirmed the news via phone call.
According to him, the connection that supplies power to Niger Republic comes directly from the national grid, therefore, it has no connection with the supply of power to any region in the country.
The move was part of pressure on the country’s coup leaders.

However, speaking via his Twitter handle on Friday, Garba stated that Niger had gotten an alternative to its power supply issues.
According to the APC stalwart, Niger will now receive power supply from Algeria.
He wrote, “Algeria is to supply electricity to Niger Republic for free.”
Meanwhile, a former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has berated the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, for cutting the power supply to the Niger Republic.
Sani insisted that the move would lead to Nigeriens living their lives without depending on external forces.
According to reports, power outages in Niger had been less frequent than it was in previous times, as power only stayed on for about an hour at a period for residents of the cities of Niamey, Maradi, and Zinder.
Reacting to the development via Twitter, on Friday, Sen. Sani highlighted the implication of Nigeria halting power supply to its northern neighbour.
Sani insisted that the move would lead to Nigeriens living their lives without depending on external forces.

Nigeria reportedly cut the power supply to the Niger Republic as one of the sanctions from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) over the coup in the country.

He wrote, “Cutting off electricity supplies to Niger Republic is affecting their hospitals, Schools, homes and offices.
“This is not putting pressure on the military junta but punishing the masses of that country and creating resentment against our country.
“The action taken by Nigeria and Ecowas is further pushing Nigeriens to rally around their Military Government. France, Ecowas & Nigeria are pushing them to learn to live without dependence.”

Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has condemned the Algeria Government over the alleged plan to supply free electricity to the Niger Republic.
