Operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, of  Lagos State, have arrested a 43-year-old father of four, Ehiarinmian Sylvester, for allegedly defrauding a United States-based Nigerian woman, Mary Okpe, of over N50 million, among other properties.

The Nigeria Xpress reports that the suspect had claimed to be a private security guard, who provide security for clients at a fee.

It was learnt that 40-year-old Okpe, who owns a farm in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, was introduced to Sylvester on one of her visits to Nigeria.

The suspect was paid to provide security detail for Okpe, following reports of herdsmen attack on farmers in parts of the country.

Sylvester, however, made love advances to the unmarried victim, who yielded, not knowing that he was already married. The suspect subsequently defrauded the victim of cash, cash and landed properties in Nigeria and South Africa.

Speaking on the arrest of the suspect, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), in charge of the command, AIG Ahmed Iliyasu, said attempts were still on to recover other looted properties.

The AIG said, “This is a case of a United States-based Nigerian lady, who has a vision of setting up a business back home.

“She managed to own a farm in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. She was introduced to this fraudulent man, as capable of providing her with security to and from the farm.

“Sylvester made a love advance to her, despite being married with children, and promised marrying her. Naively, the lady fell into the fraudulent Sylvester’s net and was defrauded neatly.

“When the lid was blown off her eyes, the lady forwarded a petition to my office and I instructed the Zonal Tactical/Monitoring Unit to go after the suspect.
