UPDATED: Murdered APC chairman: Party chieftain tasks police to nab assailants

A chieftain of APC in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, Dr. Mathew Nwogu, has tasked the police to ensure that those who murdered a ward chairman of the party, Tuesday night, are arrested and made to face the law.

It would be noted that Imo State APC was jolted on Tuesday following the killing of Ifeanyi Ozoemena, the chairman of APC Ward 11 ( Logara/Umuohiagu) few hours after a meeting of the party in the late chairman’s country home.

Nwogu, who in 2015 ran for the Federal House of Representatives under the APC said he was still in shock over the development, even as he wondered why the ward chairman was murdered.

He said it is painful that Ngor Okpala is again losing one of her prominent sons ahead of the 2019 elections, a repeat of what happened in 2015 when a Labour Party candidate for Imo House of Assembly, Ugwuezumba was murdered.

“At about 8 pm Tuesday night, I spoke with Ifeanyi and he thanked me for attending the ward meeting and also enquired if I was back home. I expressed appreciation to him for the call and we briefly discussed other party issues. Not quite one hour later, I got another call that he (Ifeanyi) has been killed by unknown gunmen. This is sad, very sad,” Nwogu said, even as he charged the police to fish out the killers.

“In 2015 Ugwuezumba of Labour Party was murdered and as we speak, law enforcement agents have not been able to fish out those who killed the young man. This is another painful murder and we just pray that those behind it would be fished out by the police this time round. If this kind of crime is committed and those behind it are not brought to book , it gives the criminals the license to continue,” Nwogu said.
