Tribunal affirms Oborevwori as Delta gov.

Delta State Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba, Delta State capital has reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the of governor of the state.

. and his PDP family yesterday jumped up jubilating as Delta Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba, led by Justice C.H Ahuchaogu, reaffirmed the governor election.

Delivering judgement, the three judge led by Justice C.H Ahuchaogu declared that the PDP governorship candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori was duly elected as governor and therefore stands elected.

He dismissed the petition of the All Progressives Congress,(APC), candidate and former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege for lack of merit.

The Delta Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba, the state capital, has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori in the March 18, 2023 governorship elections as the truly elected governor of the state.

The three -man Tribunal also dismissed the SPD candidate, Ken Gbagi for lack of Merit, saying the case brought by Gbagi was Pre-election matter.

The Tribunal declared that Oborevwori had proved his case beyond reasonable double as both his age and education qualifications met the requirements to contest the election.

Meanwhile, Governorship candidate on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the last general election in Delta State, Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi has rejected the judgement of the governorship election petition tribunal.

Gbagi described the judgement as miscarriage of justice, insisting that he will exhaust every legal process available to him.

The former chairman, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Kenneth Orusi, thus disagreed with the judgement.

He said the judgement striking out the 5th to 13th Respondents from his petition was not only ridiculous but laughable.

While noting that the tribunal was the ultimate authority in the matter at the State level, he opined that, the responsibility now rests with the Appeal Court, which he has confidence in.

According to him, “I urge Deltans to maintain their focus, steadfastness and commitment to peaceful processes. This matter has not yet reached its logical conclusion”.

The former Minister of State for Education, revealed that his legal team had already received firm instructions to file an appeal against the tribunal’s decision.

He expressed unwavering determination in his pursuit of justice, not only for himself but also for the multitude of supporters and Deltans in general whose electoral mandate he said was unjustly thwarted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in the March 18th election.

He specifically thanked his legal team, the Social Democratic Party and all those who steadfastly attended the court proceedings.
