Six suspected kidnappers, meet waterloo in Imo as police bust gang, rescue victim

A syndicate of notorious suspected kidnappers, terrorising Imo State in recent times have met their Waterloo.
The state police command has arrested six members of the gang and also rescued a kidnapped victim unhurt from the kidnapers’ den.

The victim was identified as Cornelia Oluebube, a native of Amokohia in Owerri North LGA of Imo State.

The Imo State Police Commissioner, CP Abutu Yaro, in a statement issued in Owerri by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Michael Abatham, disclosed that the victim was kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Owerri and taken to an unknown destination.

On receiving the distress call as regards the incident, the CP said that the Command’s tactical teams responded swiftly, using
available technical intelligence and trailed the suspects to Delta State where they were arrested.

The arrested suspects included Terry’s Mez, 31, who hails from Aguleri in Anambra State; Willine Ebefal of Ogbokuno in Burutu LGA of Delta State, and a 20-year-old Obasanjo Kimakia of Tamime in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

On interrogation, the three suspects volunteered useful information that took the Imo Command’s tactical teams to Delta State for the rescue of the kidnapped victim.

The CP said that after diligent gathering of intelligence and planning, the team stormed the hideout of the kidnappers’ den in Tebegbe Water Side in Delta State, and arrested another three suspects, comprising Augustine Irishaye, Jenifer Awolowo and a 17-year-old Eyemgblausi Chugbwugburefa, a native of Tibegbe in Burutu LGA of Delta State.

CP Yaro said that as the tactical teams were escorting the suspects out of their hideout, Terry Mez tried to escape but was shot on the leg to prevent him from evading lawful custody.

He added that on arrival at the command, the escaping suspect was taken to the Nigeria Police Hospital in Amakohia, Owerri, Imo State while the victim was reunited with her parents.
