Seven years after the closure of Government Secondary School (GSS), Chibok following the abduction of 276 schoolgirls by Boko Haram, Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum reopened the School on Monday.
At the reopening event which had in attendance Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs Dame Pauline Tallen, political office holders of Borno State, the well-attended ceremony also had in attendance teachers and students of the School.
On his remark, Zulum said, “After 7 years of closure, I have today reopened Government Secondary School Chibok where 276 school girls were abducted on 14 April 2014.
“We will never allow that unfortunate incident or something similar to that weaken our determination towards providing free and compulsory education to every each and every child in the state. For now, the school will be operating as a day school and not as a boarding school.”
The governor also donated items like computers, books and other learning gadgets to the School.
On the night of 14–15 April 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped by Boko Haram. Seven years after some of the girls are still on captivity while some have been rescued.
