A pan-Lagos political association, Movement For a Better Lagos, has hailed the decision of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to doubling the bursary award for Lagos Students, describing the development as responsible, sensitive and right steps in the right direction.

Convener of the Movement, Comrade Omolola Olukayode in a statement in Lagos Tuesday made available to the media said, the increment comes at the right time because of the escalating inflation in the country, stating that, “the 100 per cent increment will go a long way in augmenting the expenditure of parents and guardians of the students.”

According to the statement, Sanwo-Olu has once again confirmed to all including the doubting Thomasses that he is really the sensitive, responsible and responsive administrator the people are calling him, enthusing that the step has made his clear path to a second term in office clearer.

The statement expressed the group’s excitement on the latest development on the students’ bursary award described as ‘cushioning the effect of hardship and alleviation of poverty’ at a time Nigerians are finding it difficult to make end meet due to the crunching economic situation globally.

“It is against thi backdrop that we insist on mobilising wide and campaigning vigorously for the second term in office of this performer and achiever, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu,” the statement disclosed, stressing the need for all hands to be on deck over Sanwo-Olu’s second term project because no reasonable coach changes the winning team half way into the game.

Recall reports had it that, Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had approved 100 per cent increment on bursary payable to the students of tertiary institutions across the country aiming at supporting educational needs of students of Lagos State origin.

According to reports, the adjustment of the bursary and other benefits was basically borne out of the government’s resolve to let the students and their parents cope with the present economic reality across the country.

The new approved bursary is expected to take effect from 2022/ 2023 academic session.

The good news was dropped by the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Scholarship Board, Abdur Rahaman Lekki, during a meeting with representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Lagos State Chapter, and National Union of Lagos State Students (NULASS) at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
