Nnamdi Kanu not well, has bruises on his hand and back of his head, lawyer says

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu has met his lawyers for the first time since his re-arrest and repatriation to Nigeria.

His lawyer Alloy Ejimako told BBC that the IPOB leader told him that he was arrested in Kenya.

“The separatist leader did not look well, he has bruises on his hand and the back of his head,” Mr Ejimako said.

The lawyer further said that his client told him he was kept in a private facility in Kenya and chained to the bare floor for several days.

Ejimako said the IPOB leader was tortured and kept incommunicado before being handed over to Nigerian authorities.

Kanu was first arrested on October 14, 2015, and arraigned on 11-count charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, publication of defamatory matter, illegal possession of firearms and improper importation of goods, among others.

He is to appear at the Federal High Court in Abuja on July 26.
