N10b drug hurl: Nigerians commend Marwa over performance in NDLEA

Pascal Oparada

Barely five months into office as the head of Nigeria’s anti-drug trafficking agency, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), former Military Administrator of Lagos State, Buba Marwa, has won the hearts of Nigerians for his performance.

On Monday, Nigerians woke up to the news that NDLEA has made the highest drug hurl in the history of the agency.

Reports say NDLEA intercepted drugs worth over N10 billion naira on Saturday. This has earned Marwa adulation from Nigerians who see him as a square peg in a square hole.

Nigerians took to social media to commend him for his performance in office in the short he has been in office.

Many said they are praising Marwa irrespective of his tribe and religion.

“You see how no one is complaining that Buba Marwa is from the North? We all sincerely just want competent people, we deeply don’t want to fight every northerner, we all just want positive results!!!,” @FaladeTolu_ said on Twitter.

“What Buba Marwa is doing right now with NDLEA shouldn’t be a surprise. I still remember vividly how he crushed Agberos and their chairmen with big belle in Lagos. But your Asiwaju came and turned everything upside down. Lagos is where it is today because of Tinubu,” @YoungbausedLarry said.

Others said the idea of strong men manning positions in Nigeria before things will work is not good for Nigeria as strong institutions are better than strong men.
