MohBad: Reps summon Naira Marley, manager over late singer’s royalties, music rights

The controversial death of singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, has attracted the interest of the House of Representatives, which has summoned his former label owner,  Azeez Fashola, who goes by the stage name Naira Marley, to appear before it in connection with the late singer’s royalties and music rights.
Also invited alongside Marley was Jiggy Adeoye, Mohbad’s manager.

The invitation given through its Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance, is to enable the lawmakers to interact with the duo.
This was prompted by a motion sponsored by Hon. Babajimi Benson (APC-Lagos), who urged a review of the laws, guiding operations of the entertainment industry and copyright.
Babajide had also expressed worries about the detrimental contracts and agreements that artistes were most times forced to sign.
The lawmakers had during the debate on the matter at the plenary session on September 26, committed to ensuring that Mohbad’s musical works were properly compensated and royalties paid. They also vowed to monitor the ongoing investigation into Mohbad’s death.
The letter of summons to Naira Marley and Jiggy Adeoye,  through the President of the Performing Musicians Associations of Nigeria, PMAN, was dated Oct. 26, and signed by the Committee’s Clerk, Mr. Yusuf Ibrahim.
