LASEMA stalls Ikoyi electrical fire, rescues Iyana Ipaja fallen container victim

Swift response of LASEMA and other First Responders to distress calls saved choice properties worth billions of naira from destruction at high brow Ikoyi residential area in Lagos, when fire at 23b Gerald Road Ikoyi was quickly extinguished.

The fire which reportedly broke out on the ground floor of a nine storey building located at 23b Gerard road, opposite Park View Estate, was said to have emanated from the reception area in a duplex within the above said building.

According to situation report on the incident, it was stated that on arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a section of an Air-conditioning unit at the reception in a duplex building (9 floors high) on the ground floor was gutted by fire.

Investigations conducted at the incident scene revealed that the fire started and was terminated at the above said air-conditioning unit, which was the only one ravaged by the fire as it was extinguished before it could escalate to other parts of the house.

An effort which was attributed to the prompt interventions of the LASEMA Response Unit, alongside the LASG and, Federal Fire Services, supported by the RRS.

No loss of lives nor injuries were recorded as a result of the fire incident which was successfully put, with post assessment duly conducted by the emergency responders, after recovery operation had been concluded.

In another development at Iyana Ipaja Roundabout in Lagos, LASEMA Response Teams through frantic efforts successfully extricated a female adult, victim of a fallen container whose trapped limb beneath the container was severed to save her life.

Though efforts of the LASEMA Response Teams in the recovery operation yielded the rescue of the female victim, the operation continued in other to recover the fallen container to set the roads and roundabout free of traffic gridlock, as well as extrication of the victims severed limb beneath it.
Preliminary report regarding the fallen container at Iyana Ipaja roundabout has it that upon arrival of the Agency’s officials at the incident scene, it was discovered that a 40 feet container fell off it’s conveying truck atop the bridge, on a female passerby below.

The unfortunate passerby, a female adult who through inquiries was later identified as Esther Adebanjo, age range; 60 yrs, and resident of 14, Jimoh Street, Abule Okie, Iyana Ipaja whose limb was trapped under the fallen container, was extricated by the Agency’s officers, given immediate medical attention by officials of LASAMBUS, before being conveyed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, for a more comprehensive treatment.
The accident truck was recovered off the road through combined efforts of the Agency’s light and heavy duty tow trucks, while the incident spot was cordoned off to prevent imminent secondary incident just as the affected flat body truck conveying the container was detached and recovered off the road.
The affected container as well as the incident scene have also been handed over to Police Officers of the Nigerian Police Force from Gowon Estate Police Station.
