A former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has frowned at President Bola Tinubu’s recurrent foreign trips despite the mounting security challenge in the country.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in last year’s election, advised Tinubu to step aside if he is overwhelmed by worsening insecurity in the country.
Atiku wondered how the president could embark on a private visit to France in this crisis time, adding that Nigeria does not need another “Tourist-in-Chief”.
This is the third time Tinubu would be visiting France since he assumed office in May, last year.
However, speaking on the president’s travels and the spike in insecurity, Atiku posited that what the country needs at this time is an active leader that can tackle insecurity and not one that is indifferent while the country is drowning.
He said in a post on his X account on Tuesday: “Tinubu is playing fiddle while Nigeria is drowning in the ocean of insecurity. To imagine that the Commander-in-Chief is on a so-called private visit while kidnappers kill a nursing mother and grandmother in Abuja for failing to pay N90 million ransom and two monarchs in Ekiti, among other regular tragedies besetting Nigerians.
“If the shoes are too big for Emilokan, he should step aside. Nigeria does not need another Tourist-in-Chief. The country needs 24/7 leadership to confront the pervasive insecurity and collapsing economy.”
