Imo guber: Uzodinma, Ogunewe team up against Achonu

The upcoming Imo governorship election in November is getting more interesting, as there are speculations that Governor Hope Uzodinma may have teamed up with Maj.-Gen. Lincoln Ogunewe (rtd) against his major challenger, Sen. Athan Achonu.
According to sources, Governor Uzodinma’s All Progressives Congress (APC) is jittery with Achonu’s swelling popularity and acceptance by the people and has, therefore, reached an agreement with Ogunewe’s Action Alliance, AA, to checkmate his chances.

Ogunewe had contested for the LP ticket but was trounced at the primaries by Achonu, which prompted him to run to the AA and emerged as the party’s flag bearer.

However, sources claimed that it was Uzodinma that goaded Ogunewe to rebel against the LP and promised to support him succeed him after four years if he successfully helps split the LP’s votes during the election.

The source, who preferred not to be named said: “The major threat in the election is neither the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, nor the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, but an unholy alliance between the APC and AA. I believe the people want a fresh start, having endured hunger and unimaginable insecurity under the Uzodinma administration.

“Ndi Imo should beware of Ogunewe and Uzodinma. They should choose between another four years of misgovernance and bloodbath or a flourishing government in peace with Achonu of the Labour Party.

“Achonu fits into what Imo needs. That is why people are saying enough is enough. But beyond that, people should guard against the same fake promises they have been fed in the last four years during which our youths have been sent into exile by the wanton killings in the state.”
