DSS summons Gov. Adeleke’s aide over allegations of spreading Fake News

The Department of State Service (DSS) has summoned Mr. Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson of Governor Ademola Adeleke, over allegations of sponsoring fake news against Femi, the son of Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola.

The development follows the publication of a news report by an Abuja-based blogger, alleging that Femi is involved in extorting directors of the Ministry of Marine. Subsequently, the blogger was apprehended by DSS operatives, who claim that she implicated Rasheed as the sponsor of the report.

Rasheed has vehemently denied providing any information to an online publisher regarding Oyetola’s son. However, he has agreed to meet with investigators over the weekend to address the allegations.

Additionally, Rasheed has taken legal action by filing an originating summon in the Federal High Court, Osogbo, against the DSS and Femi Oyetola. He seeks three reliefs, including a restraining order against the DSS from further inviting, arresting, or detaining him.

The unfolding situation underscores the complexities surrounding the dissemination of information in the digital age and the potential legal consequences for those implicated in spreading false or defamatory content.
