Berlusconi receives medical treatment in Milan

Italy’s former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has received medical treatment in a Milan hospital for abdominal pain commonly caused by urinary stones, also known as renal colic.

The Italian media reported Tuesday citing his party Forza Italia.

The 82-year-old will nonetheless attend a campaign event for the upcoming European Parliament elections later on Tuesday, the reports said.

Berlusconi underwent heart surgery in early 2016.

Earlier this year, Berlusconi announced that he would run in the European poll to spark a debate about “the future of the world.’’ The EU-wide ballot will take place in Italy on May 26.

Over 30 years political career, Berlusconi has been mired in a long list of corruption and sex scandals.

He was until 2018 barred from public office due to a conviction for tax fraud at his media empire.

He remains a combative but marginalised figure after being upstaged by former ally Matteo Salvini as the leading figure of the Italian right. (NAN)
