The Surulere community was on Wednesday, thrown into mourning, following the sudden demise of a 25-year-old man, who had committed suicide over his girlfriend’s decision to call their relationship quit.
The remains of the deceased, Kehinde Muse, was found in his room at No. 56, Modele Street, Surulere area of Lagos.
Information had it that Muse had sent a suicidal text message to his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend, Rasheedat Damilola, before locking up himself in his room and gulping a bottle of sniper insecticide.
Damilola, who had alerted the parent of the deceased, had rushed to his house before he could make good his threat. It was however too late when she and Muse’s parents got there.

Elkana Bala, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, saying: “On September 18, 2019, at 6:30 p.m., Surulere Police Station received an Information that Kehinde Muse of No 56 Modele Street, Surulere, locked himself in his room and drank poisonous substance known as sniper.
“ He was rushed to the hospital but died on arrival. Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased person earlier sent a suicide text message to his ex-girlfriend, Rasheedat Damilola Animashaun, informing her that he will take his life since she decided to quit the relationship.
“ That the said girlfriend promptly informed his family about the text message he sent to her, and they rushed to his house, broke the door and found him unconscious. He was rushed to the hospital but unable to make it.”
Bala said his corpse had been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
