USA-based Nigerian ex-international, Azuka Asomugha, has thrown his weight behind the bid of Chikelue Iloenyosi to become the chairman of Anambra FA.

Asomugha in a statement made available to the media yesterday declared that Iloenyosi is the right man for the job.

According to Asomugha who in his heydays laced boots for the Super Eagles and Rangers International of Enugu and several other Nigerian clubs, getting the right man on the saddle is key to taking Anambra football to the next level.

“Some of us who played the game and are now out of the country are desirous to see things change back home. We feel like coming back to home to help out, but for one to do so, you must have the right people running the show. This is why I m backing Iloenyosi.

He (Iloenyosi) has got the passion…he is a mobiliser and he played the game at the highest level. I m convinced with him, Anambra football would move forward. With him, some of us can come home and identify with his program and get the system up and running,” Asomugha stated.

He called for a level playing field for all the aspirants ahead of the October 30 election insisting that everything should be done to ensure that only those that can genuinely develop the game are elected into the board.

The Nnewi born soccer buff said he wants to see Anambra return to her former status as the Mecca of Nigerian football just as it was in the early 90s when clubs like the now disbanded Udoji United and Jasper United held sway.
