A renowned philanthropist and governorship candidate on the ticket of the Accord Party (AP), in Ekiti State foe the June 18 gubernatorial poll, Basorun Reuben Famuyibo, has explained reason he wants to govern the state from this year saying, “I am in the race to make life more meaningful for every resident of the state after the tenure of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi.”

He made the explanation while receiving in audience a group of youths from the state capital, Ado-Ekiti, who paid him a solidarity visit recently where he assure them and the rest of the good people of the state, life more abundant.

Knowing the full benefit of infrastructure development in any nation, Famuyibo assured them of a massive infrastructural development throughout the length and breadth of the state indiscriminately adding that provision of enabling environment for small and medium scale enterprises would be given priority.

Addressing the youth group, Famuyibo said, “We will start with the payment of the backlog of salary arrears and thereafter ensure prompt payment of salaries and emoluments for teachers especially, and all civil servants.

“For the teachers, we will ensure that they get their due promotion as and when due, train and re-train them to meet with international best teaching and learning methods and practices, pay allowances for core subjects and rural posting and make available to them car and housing loans.

“We will also ensure that we create conducive working environment for our civil servants; provide free transportation to and from work and train and re-train them as well. Our government will also ensure that every Ekiti worker gets the ’13th month salary.’

“For our students, we will ensure that school fees are reduced, so that many who are denied education due to high fees can return to school; restore electricity to our campuses, maintain existing infrastructures and provide new ones and ensure adequate accommodation in partnership with investors.”

After the parley with the youth, his campaign train stormed major markets in Ado-Ekiti metropolis on a sensitisation drive ahead towards the forthcoming election, where he told them that, AP government is their government and so they must own it for their benefit

According to him, his administration would run an all-inclusive government that will give both the youth and the women their dues in accordance with global standard practices, asserting that, “ours will be services to the people and humanity.”

Some of the Markets visited included: Irona Market, Bisi Market, King’s Market and New Garage.

He said market women, farmers and artisans would also be taken care of by his administration, just as he promised adequate security for all and sundry because of the importance of security in governance and peaceful coexistence of the citizenry..

Pledging their support for his ambition, the youths promised to do everything within their powers to ensure that Otunba Famuyibo succeeds in his quest.

At the markets, market men and women enthusiastically welcomed the campaign train and also pledged their support for his aspiration.

Responding on behalf of others, a market woman, Mrs Janet Akinremi, said that Ekiti residents are tired of the two major political parties, in the country, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which she claimed had disappointed the people.

Her words: “My brother, it is high time we gave another party a chance and see what they can offer. The PDP and the APC have failed us. The Accord Party candidate, Famuyibo, has done so much for Ekiti, even when he has never been considered for any government patronage, either at the state or national level and if he can do that much without being in government, you can imagine what he would do when he has the people’s mandate. We will support him to achieve this.”
