There had been speculations that former President Jonathan might be considering switching allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and his absence at the Convention gave credence to his planned defection.

However, in an interview on Channels TV , on Monday, Governor Okowa said that the former President was absent at the event because he had prior engagements abroad on the day of the convention.

Governor Okowa said former President Jonathan had left Nigeria for Nairobi, Kenya, to attend the 12th African Union (AU) High-Level Retreat on the promotion of peace, security and stability in Africa.

In the words of the governor, “I believe communications were made with the former President Goodluck Jonathan but he had prior engagements outside the country.

“He was unable to attend because he had commitments abroad and he had to meet up with that,” he said.

Speaking on the security challenges in the country, Governior Okowa stated that the PDP was ready to rescue Nigeria from the shackles of the APC.
