Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has imposed an embargo on Salary payment to Civil Servants and political appointees that failed to enroll into the Banks Verification Number (BVN) exercise.
Umahi announced the embargo on Wednesday at the Executive Council Chambers Government House Abakaliki when a delegation from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Abakaliki Branch paid him a courtesy visit.
He said that the government would partner with the apex financial institution to enable it achieve its objective in the state.
‘”Anybody who does not have Bank Verification Number (BVN) should not expect salary for November and December, whether he is a civil servant or a political appointee”
“No salary for November and December 2019 unless those affected has gotten their BVN identification”

The Governor commended the Governor of the Central Bank Mr. Godwin Emefielle for the support and assistance given to the state in areas of agricultural interventions .notably rice production.
Earlier in his speech, the CBN Branch Controller Abakaliki Mr. Adayi Chris Onah, disclosed that a total of N12 billion intervention fund released by the CBN has so far been accessed by the Ebonyi State government between 2010-2019.
Mr. Onah outlined such intervention to include Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme, Anchor Borrowers Programme, and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund among others.
He maintained that the CBN has also evolved Business practices that incorporate sustainable developments into the Banks business model.
The apex bank Controller said that the bank would on Monday 2nd December flag-off the CBN Account Opening Balance week in Onueke Ezza South local Government Area of the state.
