Soldiers allegedly brutalise football fans at viewing center

Some football fans have recounted their near death experience in the hands of a yet-to-be identified soldiers, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Narrating his ordeal, one of the victims, Mr. Franklin Chucks Ugbe, told the reporters they were watching a football match at a viewing center, situated at 4 Road, Ayama Junction, on Sunday, January 19, 2020, when one of the soldiers to joined them to watch the match.

He said the soldier accused an elderly, man sitting close to him, of pushing him. He said the man denied the allegation but the soldier started slapping the elderly man. The solder later reportedly called his colleagues on phone, who soon arrived there joined him in brutalising many of the fans.

He said many sustained injuries in the hands of the soldiers.

According to him, “The elderly man denied pushing him. He gave the man hot slap twice. That was when I stood up and told him that he was lying.

“He went out and called his colleagues and they started beating all of us. We sustained injuries on our foreheads, shoulders with pains all over our body”.

Franklin said he could identify the soldiers because they are currently employed by CCECC, along Ayama Road, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Franklin therefore called on the Army authorities to call their men to order.
