Shops razed, several injured as Hausa, Fulani clash in Ondo

A Fulani man has reportedly died and several others injured following a clash between some Hausa and Fulani settlers at Ogbese community in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, Punch reports.

Punch gathered that the clash started on Tuesday and continued till Wednesday as many shops in the market belonging to the two tribes were razed overnight.

A resident, who spoke on condition anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, said the crisis was caused by a disagreement over the owner of some wraps of hemp.

He said a Fulani man allegedly stole from a pack of the hemp kept in the bush by an Hausa man.

“The two of them fought over a pack of Indian hemp kept in the bush by the Hausa man. The fight extended to the town on Tuesday. One of the Fulani men was killed and shops belonging to the Hausa were set ablaze in the night .We have been seeing policemen and some security agents patrolling the town since Tuesday.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, said eight shops were razed but refused to give details of the crisis.
