Sarri, Arrizabalaga set Internet ablaze

Many who watched the EFL Cup Final Match between Manchester City and Chelsea Football Club are still to come to terms with the drama that played out between the Chelsea goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga and the coach, Maurizio Sarri.

As the game was winding down to a penalty shootout, the Chelsea gaffer attempted to substitute Arrizabalaga with William Caballero, who is perceived by the coach to be better penalty stopper and a former player at Man City. To the dismay of the coach and many at the majestic Wembley Stadium where the game took place, Arrizabalaga refused to come off to be substituted.

While it was a clear case of misunderstanding by the Keeper, his action and the subsequent reaction of Sarri expectedly has continued to generate reactions online.

According to Jack Caulfield with the Twitter handle, @jackcaulfield78 the action of Arrizabalaga could not be unrelated with the fact that it was the biggest game of his life so far and could not understand why the manager wanted to take him off at such a crucial time.

“Imagine being in your first year at a club, the world record transfer fee for a keeper and in the biggest game of your life so far at the most crucial time your manager wants to bring you off,” he wrote

Another user with the handle @ 360Sources Sarri handled the case well and he expects Arrizabalaga to apologize.

“Credit to Sarri for approaching the media in this way but he will certainly be speaking to Arrizabalaga in the dressing room. I expect a public apology from Arrizabalaga, disgraceful actions on his part” he wrote.

On his part, Elohim with the handle @ebo_godwyll says Arrizabalaga action was very childish.

“Arrizabalaga was very childish… Caballero has been in Man City before and he knows how they train during penalties… It was a very tactical substitution Sarri was trying to make but Arrizabalaga tot he had the club in his nipples,” he wrote.
