Police kick starts interpol week with novelty match

By George Aluo
This year’s Nigeria Police interpol week would not be all talks about security as the event would kick start on Saturday in Abuja with a novelty football match that would attract some of the nation’s ex internationals.
The soccer loving Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of Interpol, GB Umar said they would be using the novelty game to attract public attention to the six-day event which runs from August 23-27.
“We would be taking to the pitch to play against some ex internationals and there would also be a Walk for a safer world from the Force Headquarters to Millennium Park. We are doing this as a way of sensitizing the public and creating awareness about the week,” Umar disclosed.
This year’s interpol week with the theme…”For a safer world” would however be declared open by the Inspector General of Police IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu at the International Conference Centre Abuja on Monday August 26.
Going by the line up of events, presentations would be made on issues bothering on terrorism, illicit traffic on arms, illegal migration and corruption.
The IGP would also be performing the foundation laying ceremony of the new ultra modern Interpol NCB building in the Central Area of Abuja.
The Interpol week would be rounded up with a gala nite that is expected to attract high profile personalities and major security stakeholders.
