Plateau PDP kicks against appointment of APC flag-bearers as council chairs

By Andrew Ajijah

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in Plateau State, has threatened to resort to self-help should Governor Simon Lalong failed to reverse the appointment of four APC candidates as transition chairmen of Jos North, Jos South, Barkin-Ladi and Riyom local government areas.

Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, John Akans, in a press conference, on Wednesday, at the party secretariat, called on Plateau citizens to join the PDP in condemning the action of the governor.

“If this act is not condemned and rejected by all men of goodwill it might be a security threat to our existence as a people.

“This action is not only illegal, but undemocratic, unconstitutional and a full blown dictatorship.

“The party (PDP) was shocked on October 9th, 2019 with unbelievable and maladjusted news of Governor Lalong’s decision to swear in APC’s flag-bearers as the caretaker’s chairmen of local government areas for Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Jos South and Jos North.”

Recall that Governor Lalong, on Friday, last week, appointed four persons who contested chairmanship seat on the platform of the APC for Riyom, Barkinladi Jos South and Jos North local government areas without formal elections.

The PDP spokesman said the action of the governor was not democratic and it should be condemned by well-meaning Nigerians.

“It is practically clear that APC has substituted democracy with impunity and are forcefully asking the people to accept this undemocratic and illegal actions.”

“It is indeed tragic today that despite the effort of  our democratic founding fathers in deepening tenets and norms of democracy for the people to enjoy, it is unfortunately now being bastardised and used against the people where they cannot freely and fully celebrate their freedom and liberty because those who lead us today are opportunist not democrats.”
