Ogun PASAN suspends 21-day strike

Legislative staff workers in Ogun State under the aegis of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) have suspended their strike after reaching a truce on their two local demands regarding staff welfare.

 

The suspension was preceded by a three-hour meeting between the legislative Union and Principal Officers of the House.

 

According to the Chairman, PASAN, Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Ojediran Ayotunde, said a memorandum of understanding was signed which led to the members of PASAN agreeing to suspend Minority strike for a period of three weeks (21 days) effective from 22nd November, 2023.

He explained that the MoU was signed by the Principal Officers of the House of Assembly including Speaker Olakunle Oluomo, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bolanle Ajayi, Minority Leader, Hon. Adeleye Lukmon, Chief Whip- Hon. Bakare Omolola and Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Ademola Adeniran.

 

Others who endorsed the documents were Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Atobatele Lukman, Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Tella Babatunde, Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Dickson Awolaja, representatives of management and the Union.

 

Giving the content of the agreement, Ojediran stated that within the 21-days timeframe, the Lawmakers assured of requesting the State Government to “pay without further delay the accrued statutory salaries and allowances of the Clerk, Deputy Clerk and Executive Secretary of the Commission since their respective dates of appointments as provided for in Sections 10(i), 12(ii), 13 & 14 of the House of Assembly Service Commission Law, 2018 and the Statutory Offices (State Emoluments) Amendment Law, 2018.

“Effect continuous payment of the Salaries and Allowances through the Consortium of the Administration of Salaries and Pension in the State. Extend the payment of the 40% Peculiar Allowance (with effect from August 2023) to cushion the effect of inflation to the staff of the State Legislature for parity of treatment with their colleagues in the State Civil Service”

 

“Assent the Legislative Funds Management Law 2023 and Judiciary Funds Management Law, 2023 accordingly. Establish the Disbursement and provide necessary tools the Committee to commence action with November, 2023 allocation”, the agreement partly reads.

 

“The leadership of the House is expected to ensure that the Executive Arm of Government implementing these demands within a period of three weeks effective from tomorrow,Wednesday, 22nd November, 2023 failure in which the Association will resume the strike Action by 12 midnight”, the Chairman said
