Mubi Community petitions Adamawa Assembly over encroachment on schools’ land

Some residents of Mubi town in Adamawa State have petitioned the State House of Assembly over rising cases of encroachment on land belonging to public schools in the town.

The petition, which was announced at the house plenary on Tuesday by the House Speaker, Kabiru Mijinyawa, was however referred to House Committee on Public Petition for investigation.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the petition, one of the signatories, Danladi Chamber, said that many primary and secondary schools in the town were affected.

“Kabang, Gerewol, Sabon-Pegi, Wuro-Gude, Gaya, Wuro-Patuje, Lokuwa, Mubi 1, Kwacham Primary and Junior Secondary Schools are affected by the encroachment.

“Residential quarters, shops and hotels are being built on land belonging to some of these schools,’’ Chamber said.

He said that the development was seriously affecting the teaching and learning environment in the affected schools.

Chamber said that it also made it difficult for the schools to expand and cater for the increasing student enrollment in the commercial border town.

He called on the state government to take urgent action to check the development. (NAN)
