Millions of Nigerians feel let down by Buhari’s govt. – NEF

Ridwan Adebayo

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has reiterated its earlier stance on the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari, insisting that millions of those who voted him into office are now regretting their action, especially in the area of security their lives and property.

The NEF’s latest position was given by a chieftain of the group, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who featured, on Monday, on a Channels Television programme, LunchTime Politics, where he joined two other people to assess the brickbats between the group and the Presidency of late.

Baba-Ahmed was actually reacting to the comment of Special Adviser to the president on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, who had said that the NEF was a one-man show, involving its convener, Prof. Ango Abdullahi alone.

But speaking during the programme, Baba-Ahmed maintained that Adesina’s description of the NEF as a one-man show, was misleading and a show of ignorance on the latter’s part.

Said he, “We are disappointed that the government of President Muhammad Buhari is not living up to the expectation of the people.

“So, we are not a new organisation. So, we are not nobody. Millions and millions of people who voted for president Muhammad Buhari  think exactly like we do. That the he has failed to secure this country and there is a need for him to improve,” he said.

Also in his own contribtion, a chieftain of the All proigressivfes Congress and a Public Affairs Analyst, Sule-Iko Sami, rejected the NEF’s position that the service chiefs have performed badly in fighting insecurity.

According to him, “ I totally disagree on the position of the forum. The issue of the president being isolated is highly untrue, with all due respect to the them (NEF).

“One thing that is clear is that the government is doing a lot in the area of security Nigerians lives and proiperty. There is now massive investment in our defence structure; massive in investment in social investment schemes which have a lot of reduction in poverty and engaging so many of our youth around the country.”
