LASEMA DG/CEO’s quick response saves day

…Agency quells Apapa bank fire

The timely response of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and it’s principal officer has saved property worth millions in Apapa, Lagos.

The swift action of the Agency’s DG/CEO which he said, he regarded as a part of his call to duty was kick started from the moment the call channelled to his public/private number came in. 

This mandate according to the DG, was said to include safeguarding of lives and properties of all Lagosians. An action he termed as “regular in performance of his official duty”, led as usual, to timely response to the fire incident at Citibank’s office domiciled at 32, Warehouse Road Apapa.

Through preliminary investigations conducted at the incident scene, it was discovered the fire that gutted a part of the bank started from the server room.

The fire that reportedly gutted the bank was said to have started from the server room of the bank  as a result of electrical surge was combated and quickly curtailed with the use of fire extinguishers from the bank and neighbours before the arrival of the professional emergency responders of LASEMA to perform their statutory duties at the incident scene.

However, no loss of life nor injury was recorded at the incident scene, while physical assessment conducted by the Agency’s response team revealed that the impact and intensity of fire was not extensive enough to cause any great damage to the building which integrity was discovered to still be structurally intact.

Speaking on the incident, the Agency’s DG/CEO of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu who thanked the local responders for their efforts also praised management of the bank for being proactive in their procurement, positioning and effective use of fire extinguishers in the bank.

He said that the singular action of the bank went a long way in  aiding the quick recovery of the building which saved it from destruction, advising that as the Agency has long been advocating, owners of large businesses, properties should endeavor to install appropriate fire extinguishers and where necessary, fire Hydrants.

He concluded by saying that more precautions should be taken especially towards year end and the festivity period.
