Lagos Blue, Red rail Lines to begin operation at the end of 2022, says Gov. Sanwo-Olu

The ongoing construction of the Blue and Red train Lines in Lagos will be completed and commence operation before the end of 2022.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance, on Monday, January 2, 2022, during an inspection tour of the projects, which started from Ikeja where the Red Line begins to Yaba, Ebute-Metta and finally to Marina that ends the Blue Line.

The Blue Line is to run from Okokomaiko to Marina while the Red Line will operate from Agbado to Marina.

In spite of the public holiday, the tour, which took three hours, had the governor’s entourage, some members of the state executive and the governor’s press crew.

While speaking with journalists shortly after the tour, Governor Sanwo-Olu said  that the monitoring of the project would be done on a quarterly basis to fast track the constructions.

He commended the contractors for working as scheduled, noting that work on the project would be delivered as promised.

“Our promise is on course, we are believing before the end of this year, we will see trains on top of these tracks. That is our commitment but we will continue to monitor and check ourselves,” he promised.

When completed, the Ikeja train station, which had been described as iconic,  will have an overpass at Awolowo Way to Agege Motor Road.

Also, at Ebute Meta, there will be an overpass from Muritala Mohammed road which will link Apapa road.
