Girl, 11, killed as adulterated kerosene explodes in her face

Tragedy struck recently at Ndiagu Ogidiani Etiti village, Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, when adulterated kerosene explosion killed 11-year-old girl, Miss Makuochukwu Nkwunabo.

Trouble reportedly started for the girl when she wanted to light up the lamp, as it was getting dark that fateful day.

According to the father of the deceased, Mr. Nwoye Nkwunabo: “That kerosene was bought about four days ego and kept until yesterday when my daughter went to pour it into the lantern.

“As she put the kerosene in the lantern and struck the matches, there was deafening explosion and subsequent flame that enveloped the apartment.

“She died instantly but we took her to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead because of severe burns and suffocation.

“We have buried her. My daughter is now one of those killed as a result of adulterated kerosene we bought from dealers unknowingly.

Nkwunabo sought the help of the state governor and other well-meaning Nigerians in his hour of need.

“I urge Governor Willie Obiano and other good-spirited individuals tocome to my rescue by assisting me, as I am helpless. She was the thirdof my children, baby of the family. She needs prayer, as she died prematurely as a result of suspected adulterated kerosene.

“I can’t believe it that my daughter who is always by my side has died just because she wanted to light up the house.

The grieving father is still reeling in the shock of having to lose his precious daughter under such circumstances.

“I pray that God in his infinite mercy will give me the heart with which to bear the irreparable loss. It is only God and people that will give me the heart to bear the loss, as she was my heart and best child companion,” Nkwunabo said.
