Sen. Ita Enang, a former governorship aspirant in Akwa Ibom State, had deplored the steep rise in the cost of fuel stated.
During an interview with Arise, the former lawmaker expressed sadness with having to fill his fuel tank N67,000 as against N19,000 previously.
Sen. Enang disposed he used to fill his utility vehicles with N8,000 but now must cough out between 22,000 and 25,000 Naira.
He opined that the government should channel the money meant for palliatives into building small-scale refineries, as the current economic situation in the country is so bad.
He added that seceral people have parked their vehicles and opted for public transportation.
“If you invest this money in these emergency small-scale refineries, if you invest it, you’ll completely reverse the situation that is leading to the suffering of the people,” Enang suggested.
“I’m not happy filling the tank I used to fill with 18, 19,000, and N67,000. N67,000 to fill a tank, and a small and utility vehicle that I used to fill with N8,000 now costs 22–25,000 naira to fill.
“I feel it; all of us feel it. And if you watch the road, go to my state, go to Akwa-Ibom, an oil producing state, and look at the number of people who have parked their vehicles, who are now using keke Napep, and even petrol station owners, to drop their children off at school,” he lamented.
