Ex-Bauchi gov. spent N2.3b on funerals in 5 months, Gov. Mohammed alleges

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has accused his predecessor, Mohammed Abubakar, of spending N 2.3 billion on funeral materials in five months.

The governor, who spoke through his spokesman, Lailan Salihu, alleged that the money was spent within the months of January and May.

He maintained that about N 900 million and N 1.4 billion, was spent on white clothes to wrap corpses and for buying woods to lace the graveyards respectively.

Salihu said that they have documentary evidence to support the allegation. He regretted that money, which ought to have been appropriated by State House of Assembly, before expenditure and of a sudden, emanated from the treasury books, insisting that the government will take stern measures to retrieve the funds stolen by the last administration, as they are public funds.
