Osun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, has cautioned the Nigerian youth against embarking on journeys outside the country without verifying how genuine the intentions of their sponsors were.

Egbemode, who was the immediate past President, Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), dropped the words of caution in her office, in Osogbo, when playing host to the members of the Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM), who paid her a courtesy visit with a view to presenting of a proposal for a Summit coming up in March in the state.

The concerned mother said the youths must know that nowhere in the world is wealth designed to be amassed overnight, informing that, “things take gradual steps to come to fruition.”

According to her, it takes gradual process from conception of pregnancy to the delivery stage and child development to adulthood, she said, just as she commended the courage of her hosts in expanding the frontier of journalism to serve humanity.

Egbemode added that, the Forum’s initiative was a welcome development because, according to her, you never can tell which family would be involved as victim in these touching issues and “in fact we must all be concerned,” she stated.

Concluding, the Commissioner assured she would study the Forum’s proposal presented to her by the President, Mr Abayomi Ajibola and do the needful in due course.

In his opening speech earlier, JIFORM President, Abayomi Ajibola has informed the commissioner of his group’s plan to use the premises of Villanova Polytechnic at Imesi-Ile for its anti-human trafficking summit.

The one-day event is slated for March 24, 2020.

“JIFORM, a non-profit and anti- irregular and human trafficking media foundation has over 150 seasoned journalists as members apart from others across the globe,” President, Ajibola Abayomi said, explaining that the institution fitted into the rural integrated communication approach of the foundation based on its location.

He spoke further thus:

“After JIFORM 2019 international summit in Abuja and participation at the world migration conference in Tunisia, we had designed an integrated communication approach to reach the people at the grassroots as regards anti-irregular migration and human trafficking advocacy.

“The current trend is disturbing. Many Nigerian youths are being trafficked and tricked to embarking on unplanned journeys leading them to sad tales. JIFORM was particularly impressed that the wife of Osun State Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Olaitan Oyetola is passionate about these issues and had been at the forefront of rescuing many stranded Nigerians abroad.

“As a role model and pride of journalism, speaking to the minds of the youths in your capacity as Honourable commissioner will go a long way to sink the message into the minds of the audience at the event. We require the support of your office and government to succeed.”

Earlier at Villanova Polytechnic, both the President and the Chairman, Planning Committee of the Summit, Yaqoub Popoola had met with the Head of Department of Computer Science, Mr. Asanbe Michael and the School Bursar, Mr. Felix Idamarhare who assured JIFORM of the institution’s commitment to ensure the success the event succeeds.

Popoola said the foundation was willing to work with the school and neighbouring villages in order to raise the consciousness against irregular migration and human trafficking.
