No fewer than 14,988 cases of pneumonia cases is recorded in Jigawa state annually, and identified as one of the major child killer diseases in the state.
This was contained in an ” Inspiring Situation Analysis Report” published by the international donor organisation “Save the Children”.
According to the report , “even though there is no available data statistics on the number of children’s death as a result of pneumonia but it proves that, less than 31.4% of caregivers in the state knows the sign of the disease“.

The report added that due to the high level of ignorance on the sign of the disease among the caregivers, in effective means to fight the scourge remains a source of worry to the state health sector.
While shading more light on the steps taken by Save the Children to give intervention to fight the disease, the State Program Manager Abdullahi Magama said, the reports analysis informed their decision to work in collaboration with state government communities and other civil organisation to tackle the challenges.
