Adamu says APC loss of Osun came as a surprise, blames party crisis

Anthony Iwuoma

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, has described his party’s defeat in the just-concluded governorship election in Osun State as a ‘surprise’.
The party chair, who spoke with BBC Hausa, said the defeat was not anticipated.

However, he insisted that despite the loss, APC would still do well in the 2023 general elections.

According to him: “We lost the race not because we are incapable but because of the crisis within. We had a massive gathering of supporters a few days before the election in Osogbo. No one could ever anticipate that we would lose the election.

“Osun defeat doesn’t in any way mean that we will lose at the general election. We only lost one state out of the 22 we have; you see, we are still strong.”

Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, an APC member, on the July 16 lost his reelection bid to Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP.)
Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to defeat the sitting governor, who garnered 375,027 votes.
