Activist lauds Sanwo-Olu over minimum wage commitment

Razaq Bamidele

A Lagos based right activist, and Convener, Campaign for Dignity in Governance (CDG), Comrade Razaq Olokoba has commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for his commitment to pay N35,000 minimum wage for the state workers.

In a statement in Lagos, Razaq said Sanwo-Olu’s stand on the minimum wage is a testimony of that he is fulfilling his campaign promises made before assumption of office, stressing that, “this latest development would further boost the morale of the workforce and thereby put the state on good footing to move to the next level of economic growth.

While expressing delight that, Sanwo-Olu is walking his talk part of which commitment to pay more than N30,000 minimum wage to the workers, Olokoba enthused that, “a Daniel has come to judgement in Lagos State.”

According to him, “it is a testimony that Lagos electorate never made a wrong choice when they gave him their mandate to be at the saddle, “ saying, “the governor is acting out of the box to convince the people that they have not made a wrong choice in him.”

Olokoba is of the conviction that a state that accounts for about 55 per cent of the country’s economy needs a good hand like Sanwo-Olu to be at the helm of its affairs, stressing that, “there is no doubting the fact that his willingness to pay more than the N30, 000 stipulated minimum wages for the state workers saying it is also an indication that his love for workers’ welfare can never be over emphasised.

So, against the forgone, the people of the state are enjoined to give Sanwo-Olu a pat on the back for his people oriented initiatives by doubling their support for him to encourage him to do more, saying, “the role of people’s support in ensuring good governance can never be wished away.”

Olokoba however stressed that, “a state that has about 20 million populations which is more than the population of several countries around the world, would surely has its glaring limitations when the issue of solving the state’s problems arises,” saying, “this is where people’s understanding is germane.”

He further expressed satisfaction at some of other steps the governor is taking so far in all other sectors, noting that, not a few people would admit that, if he is encouraged to sustain the tempo, in the next one year, it would soon be an Eldorado in the state because it would have moved astronomically up and the sky would be too low to be its limit.
