What could make a young man to rape an old grandmother? That is the puzzle the Ondo State Police Command is currently battling to solve.
At the centre of the abominable act is 35-year-old Emmanuel Joseph, who has been arrested for allegedly overpowering and raping the 80-year-old grandmother at Lotogbe street, Ondo West Local Government Area of the state.
There were conflicting narratives on how the suspect entered the woman’s house.
One source said the alleged rapist reportedly gained access into the old woman’s room through a window and threatened her with a dagger before raping her; he also allegedly collected her money and phone.
However, another source said Joseph got into the victim’s room while pretending to collect some herbs at the back of her house.
It was gathered that the victim’s cry drew people’s attention to the house but the door of her room was locked. When they broke it open, the suspect was caught naked.
Joseph was alleged to have been robbing people in the area with the aid of dangerous weapons until nemesis caught up with him.
Pleading for mercy after he was caught, the suspect confessed to have engaged in the atrocious act for long.
He pleaded: “Please, forgive me. I don’t know what l am doing at that time. Something will tell me to steal or rape and I will do it. After that, I will be blaming myself for doing it.
“I don’t know what has come over me. I was just released from prison before the strike because of this bad behaviour. I have been doing it for a long. Please, forgive me.”
However, due to the embarrassment, the old woman’s children were said to have relocated her from the area.
